Kayts Students on Trip to Colombo

Another group of students from five schools in Kayts were taken to Colombo on an education trip by the Army troops serving in the Kayts island last week. With coordination of principals and education authorities of islands, 85 students from J / Punguduthivu Maha Vidyalaya, J / Punguduthivu Kamalambikai Maha Vidyalaya, J / Punguduthivu Sri Ganesha Maha Vidyalaya, J / Punguduthivu Sri Siththi Vinayagar Maha Vidyalaya and J / Sri Subramaniyam Maha Vidyalaya along with 5 of their teachers and 5 parents were taken on the four-day Colombo tour by the 17th Battalion Gemunu Watch (17 GW) serving in Kayts.

They left Kayts on 30th March and visited a number of important places in Colombo. Harbour, museum, national zoo, parliamentary complex, BMICH, Independence Square, Galle Face and the Viharamahadevi park were among the places they visited. It was their first education trip to Colombo.

Commander 17 GW Lieutenant Colonel Senaka Premawansa had arranged accommodation and meals for students, teachers and parents during their stay in Colombo.

Officers and other ranks of the Battalion who provided security to the group throughout gave detailed description of places they visited to students. They returned to Kayts on the 2nd of April.

This was the second trip organized by the 17 GW for Kayts students.
