Honesty
of a soldier serving in Thirunelveli area helped a woman in Puttur
to get back her lost money and other valuable documents on Friday
(20). Mrs. M. Thevamani, on Thursday (19) was returning from the
bank where she pawned her jewelries to find money for a personal
requirement. But on returning the home, the poor lady found that
her wallet was missing with Rs. 41000/=, two bank money withdrawing
cards, one driving license and the pawning receipts. She immediately
lodged a complain at the Atchuvely Police in this effect.
Meanwhile,
Corporal E.M. Tikiri Banda attached to the 5th Sri Lank Light
Infantry (5 SLLI) who noticed an unattended wallet on the roadside
in Thirunelveli picked it up and found the money and several documents
inside. He took swift action to hand it over to the Commander
511 Brigade Colonel Wijendra Goonathilake through the Commander
5 SLLI Lt. Col. G.A.L. Kithsiri. Having dialed a telephone number
found from inside the wallet, Army could establish its ownership
and ascertained that Mrs. M. Thevamani of Puttur was the owner.
During the
brief function held to hand over a house built by the Army for
a needy family at Atchelu on Friday (20), Commander Security Forces
- Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe handed over
the wallet to Mrs. M. Thevamani who received it amidst tears of
delight and gratitude.

Hathurusinghe appreciated the commendable deed of Corporal Tikiri
Banda and thanked him profusely for his soldierly behavior.
He was awarded
a prize and a certificate appreciating his service.
