UK Parliamentary Group Meets Jaffna Commander

A UK Parliamentary delegation on visit to the North met Commander Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Thursday (02) evening at Headquarters SF-J in Palaly.Purpose of their meeting with the Jaffna Commander was to get an update of the present security situation and development activities currently in progress in Jaffna.

During the briefing conducted for UK Parliamentarians, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe explained the Army’s involvement in government augmented development projects in post-war Jaffna in addition to Army-initiated welfare programmes to improve education, health and economy of Jaffna people.

The delegation paid special attention on the livelihood projects launched by the Army for reintegrated ex-LTTE combatants in the peninsula and they appreciated the major role played by the Army for the development and wellbeing of needy people in the peninsula.

The visiting parliamentary group comprised Mr James Wharton, Mr Mark Menzies, Mr Andrew Stephenson, Mr Alden Burley, Mr Connor Burs, Mr Mathew Offord, Mr David Morris, Mr Bob Blackman, Mr Iran Paisley and Mrs Nicola Blackman.
