Highly venerated Nallur Kandaswamy Temple in Jaffna held its famous Ther (car) festival amidst devout cry of Aro Hara on Thursday (16). The temple site and all access roads flooded with devotees from all over the island as well as from other countries.

A distinguished crowd including Hon Minister Douglas Devananda, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Mayoress Jaffna Mrs. Yogeswari Pathgunarasa, General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathne and Brigadier Admin and Quartering Headquarters SF – J Brigadier Ramesh Sanmuganathan joined the massive crowd attending the Pooja on Thursday.

As the main rituals commenced, a helicopter of Sri Lanka Air Force dropped a shower of flowers on the temple.

Like early years, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) this year too organized a Dansala to treat devotees arriving in the venue with lunch. 15000 packets of vegetable lunch were distributed among the devotees at three locations close to the temple.

This year’s annual festival commenced on 24th July and will culminate on 19th August with vairavashanthi.
