Atchelu Civilians Receive Donations from Buddhist Monks

[2012-09-04 11:07:33]

Ven. Ellawala Upathissa Thero, Chief Incumbent of Gonaduwa Dwithwachethiyaramaya in Kaluthara during his four day visit to the North, distributed daily needs and school items for a number of needy families in Jaffna. Ven. Upathissa Thero along with six other Buddhist monks arrived in Jaffna to conduct Bodhi Pooja for soldiers serving in the Headquarters Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) and other formation Headquarters in the peninsula on the full moon day that fell on 31st August.

Based on experience he had during early visits to Jaffna, Ven. Upathissa Thero had realized that many families in Jaffna need someone’s hand of generosity to come up in society. With coordination of the Commander 511 Brigade Colonel Wijendra Goonathilake, this Buddhist monk donated those school items and daily needs for beneficiaries on 2nd September during a small function organized by the 511 Brigade at its Headquarters at Atchelu. A stock of school items were distributed among 100 primary students and 80 other students studying in secondary classes from Grade 5 to Grade 11while poor families received packs of milk powder and a few other daily needs.

Meanwhile, sets of sanitary ware were handed over to the principals of three schools in the 511 Brigade area on the same occasion.
