Coinciding with the 63rd anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), apart from customary military functions, organized various community welfare projects.

With initiative of Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, troops of Palaly SF-J Headquarters, Kopay 51 Division, Varani 52 Division and Veththalaikerny 55 Division participated in one day shramadana campaign at Jaffna Teaching Hospital on 10th October.

Roof, bathroom, beds and other furniture of ward 05 were completely colour washed by the soldiers with financial provision of Rs. 190,000/= from Headquarters SF-J.

Paints required for the Emergency Unit and the dental clinic were provided by the hospital authorities to the 51 Division. Soldiers serving under the 512 Brigade colour washed the two units.

Meanwhile, the 19th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (19 SLSR) and the 16th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (16 VIR) joined hands to give a new look to the ward 09 of Manthikai hospital on 9th October. The ward was in need of urgent renovation since it had not been touched for years for a building repair.

Decayed doors, windows with their frames, old wall-side cupboards, filing cupboards, chairs and benches were mended and painted. Broken tiles and rafters on the roof were replaced and walls of the ward were colour washed.

At the same time, patients undergoing treatments at the ward were offered lunch on that day while all resident patients at hospital were given 360 pairs of slippers by the 521 Brigade of Point Pedro. Commander 521 Brigade Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake, Commanding Officer 16 VIR Lieutenant Colonel Janith Bandara, Commanding Officer 19 SLSR Lieutenant Colonel Sujeewa Buddhadasa, officers and other ranks of those Units and the Brigade took part in the programme.
