“Young Hendris”, the Soccer Champions

Talent sharpened through regular practice, and esprit de corps brought victory to “Young Hendris” of Ilavalai at the Soccer Tournament organized by Kottawatta Sivanantha SC with the support 521 Brigade of Point Pedro to mark the 60th anniversary of the Sivanantha Sports Club.

Forty one sports clubs in Jaffna vied for the cup. Out of those, Diamonds SC of Vathiri, Young Hendris of Ilavalai, Kalaimathi SC of Navundril, St. Xavier SC of Sakkottai, Singing Fish SC of Gurunagar, Bomers SC of Vathiri, Kaladdy United SC of Karaveddy and Collins SC of Karanavai were selected for the super 8.

Finals were played at Kottawatta Sivanantha SC grounds on Wednesday, October 10 between Diamonds SC of Vathiri and Young Hendris of Ilavalai who won the match with 1 – 0 against Vathiri Diamonds, first runners up. Kaladdy United SC secured the position of second runners up. All three SCs were awarded with grand trophies while the winners received cash prices of Rs. 25000/=, Rs. 20000/= and 10000/= according to their order of performance.

Director Sports Northern Province Mr. Annathurai, Commander 521 Brigade Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake, Karaveddy Divisional Secretary Mr. Srivasri and a crowd of about 5000 witnessed the final match played on Wednesday evening.
