The 553 Brigade of Vethathalaikerny, in one of its community welfare projects, organized a medical clinic for the civilians on Sunday, October 14th at Veththalaikerny Parameswara Maha Vidyalaya.

Over 300 civilians attended the medical and eye clinic to get treatments and medical advice from the Medical Officer of the 55 Division and doctors from Point Pedro government hospital. An optician from “Thusha Optical and Dental Works” joined the medical staff to check vision of people present at the eye clinic.

Dr. D. Vinothan, Dr. Anton Sudaharan, Dr. Mrs. Sudaharan Suranutha, pharmacist R.D.A. Bandara, pharmacist B. Prasad of Point Pedro hospital and optician T. Mahenthiran of “Thusha Opticals” conducted the clinic organized by the 19th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (19 SLNG) on behalf of the 553 Brigade.

At the eye clinic, data were collected to organize a donation of spectacles to those who have defects in their vision.

The medical clinic was a great consolation to Veththalaikerny people who were recently resettled and are deprived of sufficient medical facilities close at hand.

General Officer Commanding 55 Division Brigadier B.H.M.A. Wijesinghe, Commanding Officer 19 SLNG Major Rajivu Fernando and senior officers of the 55 Division were present.
