553 Brigade of Vethathalaikerny, in one of its community welfare
projects, organized a medical clinic for the civilians on Sunday,
October 14th at Veththalaikerny Parameswara Maha Vidyalaya.
civilians attended the medical and eye clinic to get treatments
and medical advice from the Medical Officer of the 55 Division
and doctors from Point Pedro government hospital. An optician
from “Thusha Optical and Dental Works” joined the medical staff
to check vision of people present at the eye clinic.

Dr. Anton Sudaharan, Dr. Mrs. Sudaharan Suranutha, pharmacist
R.D.A. Bandara, pharmacist B. Prasad of Point Pedro hospital and
optician T. Mahenthiran of “Thusha Opticals” conducted the clinic
organized by the 19th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (19 SLNG)
on behalf of the 553 Brigade.
At the eye
clinic, data were collected to organize a donation of spectacles
to those who have defects in their vision.
The medical clinic was a great consolation to Veththalaikerny
people who were recently resettled and are deprived of sufficient
medical facilities close at hand.
Commanding 55 Division Brigadier B.H.M.A. Wijesinghe, Commanding
Officer 19 SLNG Major Rajivu Fernando and senior officers of the
55 Division were present.
