2012, Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) organized a felicitation ceremony
to award a group of Grade 5 students who achieved successful results
at the examination.

ceremony for the second consecutive year.
Out of 8937
candidates who appeared the examination from the Jaffna District,
1027 have achieved sufficient marks to win scholarships. Headquarters
SF-J, with assistance of the Jaffna Education Department, selected
the first 26 students and awarded them with valuable gifts at
the ceremony held on Wednesday, October 31 morning at Civil Affairs
and Public Relations Office on the Hospital Road.

bag, a small travelling bag, an umbrella, a dictionary and a pack
of school items. In addition, the student who became the first

In the same way, three students who scored equal marks to win
the second place were given passbooks with deposit of Rs. 5000/=
each while Rs. 2500/= worth passbooks were handed over to 22 other
scholarship winners by the Chief Guest Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe
and other invited distinguished guests.

He made a special note on the Late national heroes like Sir Ponnambalam
Ramanathan who worked hand in hand with Sinhalese and Muslim community
leaders to win independence for the country and great Tamil intellectuals
such as Dr. Luxman Kathirgamar and Dr. Neelam Thiruchelvam, assassinated
by the LTTE. Taking those Tamil leaders as examples, he said that
cast, race or religion of a person is immaterial when bringing
honour to the country.
Mr. P. Vigneswaran, Deputy Secretary Ministry of Education-Northern
Province, in his vote of thanks reminded that since 1996 Sri Lanka
Army has been helping to improve standard of education in Jaffna,
and under the tenure of present SF-J Commander, Jaffna Education
Department was able to reopen 7 schools from Vasavilan to Keeramalai
after he took actions to release those areas from the then High
Security Zone. Mr. Vigneswaran also admired Army’s assistance
extended to restart all schools in Vadamaratchi area after resettlement
Agent Jaffna Mr. Suntharam Arumainayagam, Mayoress Jaffna Mrs.
Yogeswari Pathgunarasa and a senior Jaffna citizen Mr. Iswara
Sarma Sabarathne, addressing the gathering thanked the Army for
its contribution towards improvement of education in Jaffna.

to speak a few words on behalf all scholarship winners and thanked
the Army for organizing a felicitation ceremony to encourage them.
