A Parliamentary delegation of the Czech Republic arrived in Palaly on Wednesday, November 21st to meet Commander Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.

They had a meeting with the Commander SF-J and were enlightened on the Army’s role in post war Jaffna. During his briefing, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe said that Army will assist the Police to maintain law and order and hard-earned peace in Jaffna.

Answering a question of a member of the delegation, SF-J Commander revealed that number of troops in Jaffna has been reduced in large number since 2009 and further reduction of troops will continue in future on instructions of higher Headquarters in Colombo after considering the security situation. He further said that Army, at present, is giving its fullest support to government’s development programmes in Jaffna and helping civilians in various ways to improve their economy, education, culture and health.

MP and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Mr. David Vodrazk, MP and Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Mrs. Katerina Konecna and six other MPs and ambassadorial officials comprised the delegation.
