Over 125 Vadamaratchi Students Attend the Reading Camp Organized by 55 Division

The Reading Camp organized for the 3rd time by the 55 Division of Veththilaikerny in order to improve reading skill of students of the 55 Division area was held on 19th and 20th November at Uduththurai Maha Vidyalaya with participation of Commander 551 Brigade Brigadier Hemantha Kulathunga, Divisional Director of Education Maruthankerny Mr. K. Ponnaiah, principals and teachers.

National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB) has been assisting the 55 Division to organize the Reading Camp throughout. Director NLDSB Mrs. Nalani Mallawaarachchi, Subject Officer Mr. Nishanthada De Silva and Training Officer (Retired) Mrs. Kamala Ambiga lectured on the importance of Reading and taught the students techniques to improve skills from scanning up to comprehensive reading.

Over 125 students from different schools in Maruthankerny Division and their teachers participated in the programme.

At the closing ceremony presided by General Officer Commanding 55 Division Brigadier B.H.M.A. Wijesinghe, a certificate was given to each participant for their attendance. Meanwhile, 13 schools in Vadamaratchi East Education Zone were donated sets of library books worth of Rs. 130,000/=.

Transport and meals were provided to students and teachers by the Units serving under the 55 Division.
