Canadian Diplomatic Delegation Meets Jaffna Commander

Ms Megan Foster, Counsellor of the Canadian High Commission in Colombo and Ms Esther Van Nes, the first secretary had a discussion with Commander Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Tuesday, December 4th at Headquarters SF-J Palaly.

They got an update on the security situation of the region during the meeting. Elaborating on the role of the Army in post war Jaffna, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe explained how the Army is involved in Jaffna development projects.

The delegation was enlightened on welfare projects launched by the Army for the betterment of civilians and assistance given to ex-LTTE combatants to find self –employment and enhance their economy.

He also said that Army is gradually handing over the properties of civilians occupied by the troops and many such properties have already been handed over to their owners. Constructing of new military camps in government lands for the remaining troops is progressing in fast lane.
