Solar-Powered Lamps Distributed among Civilians

Another humanitarian assistance was extended to a school girl of the GCE O/Level class of Usan Ramanathan by the 10th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (10 SLNG) serving at Ketpeli.

Miss Gnanabalasinham Ramsika who is sitting GCE O/Level examination his year lost the affection of her father after he was killed during the period of recent war. Since then she continued her studies amidst financial hardships. Although she was preparing for the examination, continuing studies in the night was a difficult task since electricity was not available in her house. Commanding Officer of the 10 SLNG Major J.D.U.T. Kumara paid his kind attention on this situation and donated a lamp powered by a solar pannel enabling her to study for the examination.

At the same time, the 10 SLNG Battalion took steps to distribute lamps of the same kind among 10 more families while Solex electric torches were distributed among 250 families in Sambavalai, Kodikamam area on December 04th.

Mr. K. Saunders sponsored the Solex electric torches.
