of Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) who paid the supreme sacrifice
during their missions in Sri Lanka between July 1987 and March 1990
were remembered in a brief but solemn ceremony on 26th January 2017
at the IPKF monument in Palaly. This ceremony was held to celebrate
the 67th Republic day of India.
Mr. A Natarajan,
Consulate General of India in Jaffna, graced the occasion as the
Chief Guest. A brief introduction on the history of the event
was followed by a two minute silence in honor of the fallen heroes.
Later, Mr. A. Natarajan, Consulate General of India in Jaffna
and Major General Mahesh Senanayaka, Commander Security Force
(Jaffna), paid floral tributes to the monument.
Pawan conducted by the IPKF on 12th October 1987, LTTE terrorists
opened indiscriminate fire at soldiers of the 10 Indian Para Regiment
half way their Heli – Landing to the Jaffna University premises
which was then, the Tactical Headquarters of LTTE, blatantly violating
the Geneva Convention passed in 1949.
