Maj. Gen. Mahesh Senanayaka Completes his Tenure as Commander Security Force Jaffna

Major General Mahesh Senanayaka who held the office of the Commander Security Force (Jaffna) - SF (J) more than one year relinquished the appointment on 28th March 2017 to assume duties as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army. Prior to his leaving Jaffna, outgoing Commander SF (J) visited 51, 52, 53 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (North), Kankesanthurai and addressed the troops. He thanked all ranks serving in respective formations for their high standard of professionalism maintained during the past year and assistance extended to maintain a peaceful environment in the peninsula. On the 26th March, he was extended a Guard of Honour at the Headquarters SF (J) by the troops of 10 Field Engineer Regiment.

Before being appointed the Commander SF (J) on 28th January 2016, Maj. Gen. Mahesh Senanayaka was the Military Secretary (MS) of the Army and he has held many responsible command and staff appointments in the Army and diplomatic appointments overseas.

Since the day he took over the office as the Commander SF (J), Maj. Gen. Mahesh Senanayaka took special concern in uplifting the standard of training of officers and other ranks to improve their quality as professional soldiers. Infrastructure facilities for training were improved and training opportunities for officers and other ranks were widened. Initiating 'Palmyra Ingenuity', the innovation exhibition, he made an opportunity to uplift their professionalism.

At the same time, he looked into the welfare of soldiers serving in Jaffna in many spheres and launched a number of welfare projects. He opened the dental laboratory of the Army Base Hospital Palaly. Moreover, he expanded the facilities at the Thalsevana Holiday Resort, etc.

He facilitated religious functions at Hindu temples, Cristian Churches within the Palaly Army Cantonment extending necessary assistance to temple authorities and providing facilities to devotees participating in those festivals. By initiating 'Ranaviru Vir--Sara' card programme he provided identity to ex-servicemen in Jaffna peninsula. Further, 133 houses were constructed and handed over to Internally Displaced People (IDP) in Jaffna.

Maj. Gen. Mahesh Senanayaka simultaneously held the appointment of Colonel Commandant Sri Lanka Army Special Force in which he is continuing to function.

The outgoing Commander SF (J) placed his signature in the Visitors' Book to mark his victorious tenure at the Security Force (Jaffna).

Maj. Gen. Darshana Hettiarachchi was successor to Maj. Gen. Mahesh Senanayaka.
