Maj. Gen. Darshana Hettiarachchi Assumes Duty as New Commander SF (J)

Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi assumed duties as the Commander Security Force (Jaffna) - SF (J) at auspicious Scheduled at 10.30 hrs on Thursday (30) March 2017. A Guard of Honour was extended to the incoming Commander by the troops of the 10 Field Engineers Regiment on arrival to the Headquarters SF (J). He placed his signature in the first official document to mark his assuming duty, amidst chanting of Seth Pirith in the presence of General Officers Commanding 51 and 52 Divisions and Senior Staff Officers of Headquarters SF (J).

Clergy from other religions were also present in the office of the SF Commander to bless him in his new appointment. He planted a sapling of Mango (Magnifera Indica) marking his appointment as the Commander SF (J). Consequently, he addressed the Staff Officers and troops of HQ SF (J). Finally, he participated in the All Ranks Lunch organized at the Cpls' Club of Security Force (J).

Having joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in March 1984, Maj. Gen. Hettiarachchi, a proud product of Ananda College - Colombo, was posted as a Second Lieutenant to the Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment on 16 November 1985. During his career spanning over 33 years, he has held many Command and Staff appointments and served in many operational areas. Concerning his seniority and efficiency, Maj. Gen. Darshana Hettarachchi was sent on many local and foreign professional courses.

Major General Hettiarrachchi is a Graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College in Bangladesh (1997/1998). He successfully completed the training programme titled the "Mastering Education of Strategic and Resilience Studies at the National Resilience Institute (equivalent to a National Defence University) in Indonesia from 2 July 2013 to 9 October 2014. Further, he has obtained a Masters Degree in 'Conflict Resolution’ from the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Colombo in 2005.

Major General Hettiarrachchi was appointed the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms in February 2012 and he held that appointment until July 2013. His contribution to transform ex terrorists (LTTE) to be peace

loving useful citizens in Sri Lanka was highly commended by the relevant authorities. Although Major General Hettiarrachchi is an officer from the Corps of Engineers of the Sri Lanka Army, he had been awarded the "Rana Shura Padakkama" at three occasions for his acts of bravery in facing the enemy in the battle field during early stages of his career. Furthermore, he is a senior comrade at the National Security Think Tank of the Institute of National Security Studies, Sri Lanka.

Before being appointed as the Commander SF (J); Maj. Gen. Darshana Hettiarachchi served as the Commander Security Force (East).

He is married to Mrs. Ajantha Kumari Liyanarachchi and blessed with two daughters named Nethra and Ashvini

Maj. Gen. Darshana Hettiarachchi was successor to Maj. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake as the Commander Security Force (Jaffna).
