and Hindu New Year Festival which symbolized the cultural unity
between the two communities was organized by the Forward Maintenance
Area (North) - FMA (N) on April 28th at 'Polsewana' playground
on the directives of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander
Security Force, Jaffna. Brigadier Sanath Perera, Commander FMA
(N), had given initiative to arrange a range of traditional games
which are popular in the North and the South especially during
this festive season.
This was specially organized for male and female soldiers who
stayed away from their homes on official commitment during the
festival period. The soldiers of Security Force, Jaffna enthusiastically
took part in many events and exhibited their unity. They enjoyed
a fun filled event as they strengthened their friendship and social
contact as well. Valuable prizes were given to winners and participants.
Brigades and Battalions serving under the SF (J) extended their
support in organizing the festival.
The festivities culminated with an evening of selecting SF (J)
Awurudu Kumara/Kumariya and a musical show staged by Sri Lanka
Military Police Musical Group at 'Thalsewana' playground.
Major General Aruna Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding
52 Division, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Senior military
officers, officers and soldiers participated in the event. Army
Western and Cultural Dancing Groups made the event more colourful
and gave the audience more entertainment.
