Army to construct a new house for the family of the Jaffna University Student who died due to the Police Attack in Jaffna

Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, The Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, laid the corner stone on 22 August 2017 at Chunnakam, Jaffna for the house construction which was proposed by the Government for the family of university student, Vijekumar Sulakshange who died due to police attack in Jaffna.

With expending Government funds Security Force Jaffna has undertaken the construction work of this house under the direction of the Commander, Security Force Headquarters Jaffna. Mr. N Vethanayahan, the District Secretary Jaffna and Major General Mervyn Perera, General Officer Commanding 51 Division also joined with Hon. Minister in laying the corner stone.

The commercial value of this house including the land of 20 Perches had been estimated up to Rs. 2.1 Million.
Army has planned to complete construction of the house within 45 working days. This project is considered as one of the important endeavors in Reconciliation effort in the peninsula.
