Army Assistance to Upgrade Health Facilities in Jaffna Peninsula

Army troops deployed in Jaffna Peninsula under the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) constructed three two storied buildings at Vadukodai Regional Hospital, Kayts Base Hospital and Maruthankerny Regional Hospital and another three single storied buildings at Velani Base Hospital, Chankanai Base Hospital and Kodikamam Base Hospital.

Hon. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, symbolically declared opened three building at Vadukodai, Kayts and Maruthankerny on 24th September 2017. The required funds for the above constructions were provided by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) based in Switzerland.

It took approximately 10 months to complete the construction work at above mentioned six hospitals and troops deployed under 51, 52 and 55 Division along with the Officers and men of 5 ESR tirelessly contributed to complete the Six projects to upgrade the health facilities in Jaffna district.

Overall supervision of above projects was done by Major General Aruna Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding 52 Division under the direction and guidance of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi Commander Security Force (Jaffna).

The challenge of building six hospital buildings in Jaffna Peninsula was undertaken by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army when he was performing duties as the Security Force Commander - Jaffna.
