Study by Coconut Research Institute on Coconut Cultivation Initiated by Security Force Headquarters Jaffna

The Security Force Headquarters has commenced a coconut cultivation project in Jaffna district and more than 6000 seedlings have been planted during the last six months. The target is to plant hundred thousand seedling before end of the year 2018, in line with the Government "Api Wawamu Rata Nagamu" programme.

In order to achieve desired objectives and results, Security Force Headquarters Jaffna requested the assistance from Coconut Research Institute, Lunuvila to conduct a study on the coconut cultivation initiated by the HQ, SF (J). Accordingly, the Chairman of the Coconut Research Institute and five expert researches visited the coconut cultivated areas in Jaffna on 19 March 2018 and conducted the study.

The chairman and the experts who carried out the study were highly impressed about the initiative taken by the Army and agreed to provide continuous assistance for the coconut cultivation in Jaffna to be a success.
