The Sri Lanka Army conducted a series of events in many areas within the Jaffna Peninsula on 06th November 2018, in line with the Deepavali Festival. The events took place on the directions of Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi.

The Jaffna Fort was lit up with more than 1200 Illumination lights while the access road to the Weerabhadra Kovil in Chavakachcheri was also lit up by the Army following a full cleanup of the Kovil. A Kovil Pooja was also held to celebrate the occasion.

In addition, civilians in Kankesanthurai enjoyed a traditional treat of Milk - Rice followed by a musical extravaganza at the beach in Kankesanthurai which was also lit up and decorated. Video clips describing the importance of Deepavali were screened at the entrance to Palali cantonment in Kadduvan. Military Personnel and a large number of civilians enjoyed the celebrations which were undoubtedly huge efforts towards rebuilding the once-lost ethnic harmony in Sri Lanka.
