General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Commander
of the Sri Lanka Army visited Security Forces (Jaffna) on Friday
20th September 2019. This is his first visit to Jaffna after assuming
the office as the 23rd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.
The Commander of the Army was received at the Palaly Airport by
Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna)
and the Senior Staff Officers at the Security Forces Headquarters.
Upon arrival the Commander laid floral tributes to the monument
of the fallen war heroes at Palaly.
In accordance with the military traditions, troops of the 14th
Gajaba Regiment accorded a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the
headquarters followed by a formal Guard of Honour to the Commander
of the Army.
At the conclusion of the military honours, the Commander planted
a 'Mango' sapling (Mangifera indica) at the Headquarter premises
to mark his maiden visit to Security Forces (Jaffna). Subsequently,
Commander addressed a large gathering of Officers and Other Ranks
and had tea with them.
Later in the afternoon, the Commander of the Army paid a courtesy
call on the Governor Northern Province, Hon Dr Suresh Raghavan
at the Governor's Office, Jaffna and met the Chief Incumbent of
Naga Vihara and Nallei Adeenam in Jaffna. Then the Commander paid
homage to Nallur Temple, and received blessings of the deities.
