[Updated :: 2010-09-05 08:01:18 Hours]

When you travel a few meters beyond the Chullipuram junction passing Manippay, Santhilippay and Chankanai from Jaffna, you will meet Thangaraja Siriranjan (40), an innocent and innovative miller who produces sesame oil using a hand tractor fixed to traditional domestic oil mill (Grinding Pestle or Sekkuwa).

The interview between www.cimicjaffna.com team and Thangaraja Siriranjan follows;

Q: Can we tell us something about you?
A: I was born at Annaikottai. I had my first sekku there. I came to Chullipuram after my marriage.

Q: How old are you?
A: Forty.

Q: How long have you been using this method?
A: For thirteen years. This is my fatherís employment.

Q: Did he use hand tractor for the Sekkuwa?
A: No, he used cattle. My brother is also a miller and he is also using this method.

Q: How much sesame do you mill per day?
A: About 100 kg. My wife and sons help me. I have two sons and two daughters.

Q: Are you happy with your job?
A: Of course, I work hard and get a good income because my productions have a good demand. I never sell mixed oil. I sell only pure sesame oil at reasonable price.

www.cimicjaffna.com wishes Thangaraja Siriranjan a prosperous future.
