An awareness programme was held at the Army farm - Palaly at Security
Force - Jaffna, to educate the troops employed at the farm on preserving
the quality of agriculture corps and meditation of issues based on agriculture.
The lecture was held on 12 January 2018 and it was conducted by the Agri
- Instructors of the Awareness Centre at Agriculture Department - Nuwaraeliya.....................

Upon the instructions of Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachichi, Commander
Security Force Jaffna, Mr. RMN Sanjeewa who is a veteran physical fitness
instructor delivered a lecture on the topic of 'Sports Medicine and Nutrition'
with addressing the benefits of Sportsmanship for a healthy life, on 10
January 2018 at the auditorium of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna).
At the programme the veteran instructor emphasized that Sports Nutrition
is a segment of medicine that deals with physical fitness and the treatment
and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. Sports nutrition
is the study and practice of nutrition and diet with regard to fuelling
our athletic performances. Also the veteran stressed that nutrition is
an important part of many sports training programmes, being popular in
strength sports and endurance sports....................

The Guna Jaya Sathuta Foundation donated 723 school uniforms for the needy
students Of Jaffna Muththu Thambi Maha Vidyalaya, Kondavil Paramajothi
Vidyalaya and Kokuvil RCTM School, on 04 January 2018 on the request of
the Security Force Headquarters, Jaffna. The event was organized by 511
Brigade with the collaboration of Guna Jaya Sathuta Foundation..................
of 55 Division 21st Anniversary
The 55 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna celebrated
its 2lst anniversary with several programmes on the directions of Brigadier
Jayantha Gunarathne, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 55 Division Headquarters
during December 15-23. Anniversary events included a blood donation campaign
responding to a request for blood from the Jaffna Teaching Hospital Blood
Bank. The event took place on Friday (15) and more than 103 soldiers including
Officers donated blood during the campaign. On 16 December, as the second
stage of the programme, a Bodhi Pooja Pinkama blessed all members serving
the Army and transferred merits to fallen War Heroes. The Guard Turnout
and Guard of Honor presented on Wednesday (20) by the troops of the 55
Division saluted Brigadier Jayantha Gunarathne....................
Distribution of school items and scholarships for needy students in Jaffna
by the 'Vidya' Foundation
"Vidya" Foundation founders, veteran actress Mrs. Swineetha
Weerasinghe, Mr. Nandalal Malagoda, Mr. Mohan Shankar and Mrs. Wadani
Shankar arranged a donation campaign to commemorate School student Vidya
Sivaloganathan who was brutally murdered in 2005. The main concern of
the "Vidya" foundation is to uplift the education standard of
poor students in all over the Island. Moreover, this event was coordinated
by Headquarters Security Force - Jaffna on the direction of Major General
Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander SF (J), to award scholarships and
sports items for 10 deserving students of the Pungudathive Maha Vidyalaya
in Jaffna on 27 December 2017 at the HQ SF (J) auditorium. In addition
to that, 15 needy families in Jaffna were also received "Suraksha
Certificates" at the same event......................
12 VIR snatches the "Security Force Jaffna 20 - 20 Cricket Trophy
12 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment was able to clinch 20 - 20 soft ball Cricket
Trophy - 2017 at the Cricket Tournament organized by 551 Brigade on the
directions of Headquarters Security Force - Jaffna. The final match was
held at the Palaly cricket ground on 26 December 2017 and witnessed by
a large amount of cricket fans and distinguished guests including Major
General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander SF - J who graced the occasion
as the Chief Guest. Division Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Commanding

Jaffna Food Festival Ended Successfully with Christmas Carols
Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna in coordination with 51 Division,
organized the "Christmas Carols - 2017" on the final day of
Jaffna Food Festival on 17 December 2017 in the premises of Muttavely
ground. Christmas Carols presented with yuletide extravaganza of music,
dances and prayers enlightened the Jaffna People...............
"Rhythm of Harmony" Musical Evening Entertained the People in
Jaffna During the Food Festival Organized by the Sri Lanka Army
The mega musical extravaganza "Rhythm of Harmony" was organized
by Security Force Jaffna on 16 December 2017 at Muttavely ground in Jaffna.
Enthralling performances of rhythmic dances, melodies of music and singing
entertained the audience at the Jaffna Food Festival - 2017. Musical show
"Rhythm of Harmony" presented by "Agni", one of the
most popular bands in the island, that played unplugged for vocalists
who sang famous Sinhala, Tamil and Hindi songs to entertain thousands

Naga Vihara 'Uduvap' Maha Perahera was held in Jaffna
Jaffna Sri Naga Vihara Uduvap’ Maha Perahera organized by the Army
paraded in the streets in Jaffna yesterday night for the first time in
the history. Upon the instructions and patronage of Major General Dharshana
Hettiarachchi, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Marvyn
Perera, General Officer Commanding 51 Division and Brigadier Sarath Dissanayaka

New Two-Storeyed Building for WOs' & Sgts' Mess at SF HQ - Jaffna
An event was organized to lay the cornerstone for the construction of
a new two-storeyed building for the Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess
at Headquarters Security Forces (Jaffna) on 02 December 2017. The inaugural
ceremony was headed by Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander
SF (J) as the Chief Guest and laid the cornerstone at the auspicious minute
amidst Pirith chanting by Viharadhikari Sri Naga Vihara Jaffna, Ven. Meehahajandure
Siriwimala Thero. Senior Staff Officers, Officers and Senior Non Commission
Officers at HQ SF (J) were present at the event........
Programme for SNCOs and Junior Officers - Security Force Headquarters
An awareness Programme was conducted by Warrant Officer I (Retired) K.
R. A. Senevirathna, on "Responsibilities of the SNCO's "for
all Senior Non Commissioned Officers who are serving under Security Forces
(Jaffna) area of responsibility on 29 and 30 November 2017 at the Auditorium
of Headquarters Security Forces (Jaffna). Subsequent
to the programme for SNCO's another programme was conducted to Junior
Officers on "what is expected from an officer by the Officer Ranks".
The Officers /SNCO's who attended the programmes highly commended the
opportunity given to them to learn many things about the Army and ethics
related to the Army. Warrant Officer I (Retd) K. R. A. Senevirathna served
at the Sri Lanka Military Academy closer to 10 years as an instructor
to a considerable number of Officer Cadet Intakes prior to his retirement
from the Army.........................
High Commissioner Meets the Security Forces Commander, Jaffna
HE David Mckinnon, High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka along with
Ms. Jennifer Hart, Political and Economic Counselor of the Canadian High
Commission paid a visit to the Security Forces Headquarter - Jaffna on
30 November 2017 and had a discussion with Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi,
the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna. The Commander welcomed the delegation
and briefed on the responsibilities and role of the military during the
period of post conflict in the Jaffna Peninsula. Further, a discussion
was held concerning the civil-military relations, release of lands and
peace building and reconciliation process.Later, the Commander SF (J)
presented a memento to HE Davi Mckinnon, High Commissioner of Canada to
Sri Lanka and the High Commissioner signed the Visitor's Book to mark

Mrs. Swineetha Weerasinghe, Mr. Nandalal Malagoda, Mr. Mohan Shankar and
Mrs. Wadani Shankar donated bicycles, school bags, shoes, books and stationeries
to all students of Pungudathivu Maha Vidyala in Jaffna on 25th November
2017 to mark the 21st birthday of Vidya Sivaloganathan.Vidya Sivaloganathan
was a student of Pungudathivu Maha Vidyala and she was raped and brutally
murdered when she was going to the School on 13th May 2015 morning. Further,
financial donations were also made to Vidya Sivaloganathan's mother by

of stationeries for the students in Chawakachchery area was organized
upon a conception of Major General Aruna Wanniarachchi, Commander 52 Division,
on 21 November 2017 at R.C.T.M. College, Chawakachchery. The event was
coordinated by 523 Brigade and the stationeries were distributed among
52 students from low-income families in Chawakachchery with the sponsorship

Forces Provided Assistance for Flood Affected People in Jaffna

The Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) organized an event known as the
"Kadula" which was conducted by Brother Charles Thomas at Air
Force Base Palaly on 09 November 2017.This event focuses to inculcate
human values and to develop the country by working all communities together
for a common goals. Over 4500 Officers and Other Ranks attended the event,
which included Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and Government officials
who are serving in Jaffna peninsula. During the said event, Brother Charles
Thomas emphasized the necessity and the importance of the unity and diversity.
The Commander Security Force Jaffna and the large number of troops really
enjoyed the event and it is believed that such programs will have a great
impact to the reconciliation process.......................

A Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant for the purification of drinking water was
inaugurated at the premises of the Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna)
on 02 November 2017. Installation of the RO plant fulfilled a long-felt
need at the HQ SF (J) and it will have a great impact to prevent Chronic

Super Luxury Bus Service for Army Troops to Proceed on Leave from Jafffna
Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, the Security Force Commander -
Jaffna commenced a Super Luxury bus service on 01 November 2017 for the
Army troops proceeding on leave from Jaffna to Colombo and Colombo to
Jaffna daily. This welfare measure was initiated in collaboration with
a private bus company to provide a comfortable journey for the Army personnel
to proceed on leave. The bus service will go to all major camps in Jaffna
district to pick Army personnel proceeding on leave and during the return
journey from Colombo, the bus will go to all major camps to drop the Army

Distribution of Motorcycles to the Under Command Battalions of Security

The Noblest Buddhists Religious Activity of Katina Pooja held at Navatkuly
Sri Samiddhi Sumana Vihara
Hundreds of Buddhists from North and South participated at the Cheevara
Pooja (ritual offering of new Robes) and Alms Giving at Sri Sumiddhi Sumana
Vihara, Navatkuly in Jaffna. The event was held for the fifth consecutive
year since the establishment of Navatkuly Sri Samiddhi Sumana Vihara in
2012. The Perahera was demonstrated on 25 October 2017 evening with the

Army assistance to construct six new houses in Karainagar - Jaffna
Army troops deployed in Jaffna will assist to construct another six new
houses in Karainagar area in Jaffna for the needy people in the area.
Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious
Affairs has allocated required funds for the construction of new houses.
