Martial Arts workshop Ends Successfully
The Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna, in collaboration with the International
Martial Arts Academy in Sri Lanka successfully conducted the 3rd workshop
on Martial Arts within the year 2018, for Army personnel under command

The second computer course for year 2018 on behalf of Soldiers serving

The historical perahera of Sri Naga Vihara International Buddhist Centre

A three-month course to improve English Language Skills of Soldiers serving
within the Jaffna Peninsula was conducted by Security Force Headquarters
- Jaffna from 10th July to 17th October 2018 at the Headquarters. 41 Soldiers
from various regiments benefitted out of the course which included many
areas of the language and its uses................
Courses to Develop Computer Literacy of Army Personnel in the Jaffna Peninsula
The Second Course of the year to develop Computer Literacy of Soldiers
serving within Battalions under command to Security Force Headquarters
- Jaffna was launched at its Headquarters in Palaly, Jaffna on 16th October
2018. The 21-day course will cover knowledge on theoretical and practical
use of computers including its software and hardware components. A total
of 40 Soldiers are expected to benefit out of the course which was initiated
according to a view of Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General
Darshana Hettiarrachchi to improve the computer literacy of soldiers in
coping with the computer based working systems at present. The academic
resource assistance was provided by Orient Academy (Pritave) Limited.
House for St. Anthony's Church in Urani Declared Open
A Parish House for St. Anthony's Church in Urani, Kankesanthurai was declared
open by Brigadier Ajith Elwatta on 14th October 2018. The manpower required
to construct the Parish House was provided by the Army Troops serving

Troops Serving In Jaffna Educated on Smoking, Dangerous Drugs Use and
A series of lectures to educate Army Troops serving within the Jaffna
Peninsula regarding the use of Dangerous Drugs and Smoking was conducted
during the month of October 2018 at the Security Force - Jaffna Headquarters
premises, 52 and 55 Divisions. Officials from the National Dangerous Drugs
Control Board including its Director (External Services) - Mr. W Marasinghe
and Psychological Councilor Mr. Isuru Samarakoon conducted Dangerous Drugs
Control lectures with the assistance of Mr. T G Aariyarathne and Mr. Sanjeewa
Wijerathne who were External Service Officers of the Kandy and Nuwara

Brigade Celebrates the 69th Army Anniversary at Jaffna Fort
The 512 Brigade, commanded by Colonel Nalinda Niyangoda celebrated the
69th Army Day at the Fort in Jaffna along with troops of the 14th Battalion
of the Gajaba Regiment and 17th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch. The celebrations
took place on 10th October 2018 which commenced by hoisting the Army Flag
and the Brigade Flag followed by the Army Song. Subsequently, a two minute
silence was observed in memory of all Fallen War Heroes who paid the supreme
sacrifice on behalf of the motherland. The occasion concluded with the

The recitation of the Army Anthem took place followed by a two-minute
silence observed in honour of all Fallen War Heroes who made a supreme

A Post Office at Palaly was declared open by Commander Security Force
- Jaffna Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi on 06th October 2018. The
Post Office was established on a request made by Commander Security Force
- Jaffna in view of providing postal and communication facilities for
Military troops serving in the Palaly Army Cantonment. Deputy Post Mistress

Finals Ends Successfully
The Athletic meet of Security Force Jaffna Conducted its finals at the
Duraiappah Stadium in Jaffna on 5th October 2018. Commander Security Force
- Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi initiated the concept
of conducting such Sports activities with the aim of recognizing athletic
talents of the soldiers serving in the Jaffna Peninsula.The meet was organized
by the Forward Maintenance Area (North) while the competitions were judged
by Members of the Sri Lanka Army Athletic committee. The overall championship
was secured by the 55 Division while the Mens Tug of War grand finals
was won by the 52 Division. The Security Force - Jaffna team emerged as
Champions of the Womens Tug of War competition. The Best Athlete of Mens
Religious Flag Blessings for the 69th Army Day in Jaffna
A Flag Blessing ceremony to mark the 69th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka
Army which falls on the 10th of October annually, was conducted on 5th
October 2018 in Jaffna. The Flag Blessing Ceremony, commenced at the Nagavihara
Buddhist Temple followed by blessings at the, Jumma Mosque in Jaffna,
Nallur Kovil in Jaffna and Our Lady of Refuge Church in Jaffna. Commander

Celebrations on behalf of the World Children's Day
Another set of deserving students of the Karampagam GTM School in Mirisuvil
were do nated with school accessories including stationary and school
shoes. This was carried out in compliance to a concept initiated by the
Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi
to celebrate the World Children's Day with the under privileged children
within the Jaffna Peninsula. 49 deserving school children received donations

Strengthening the course towards Reconciliation in the North, The Security
Force Headquarters - Jaffna celebrated World Children's Day 2018 at the
Old Park in Jaffna on 30th September 2018.
The concept was initiated by Commander Security Force - Jaffna Major General
Darshana Hettiarrachchi in view of entertaining children of the under
privileged families of the Jaffna Peninsula. More than 150 children enjoyed
the day filled with fun and games followed by gifts and refreshment. Senior

Security Force - Jaffna, on the instructions and guidance of its Commander
Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, celebrated the Elders' day on 28th
September 2018 with the elders at the Shanthi Elders Home at Kaithadi,
Jaffna. This was in view of the World Elders' Day which falls on the 1st
of October Annually. A number of fun filled events including musical hats
and calypso music entertained the elders while prizes were distributed

made arrangements to construct toilets for three poverty-struck families
in the Jaffna Peninsula with the aim of providing sanitary facilities
to them. Financial assistance for the constructions was provided by the

A Self Banking Facility complex including a Kiosk for Utility Bill payments
was declared open by Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General
Darshana Hettiarrachchi on 23rd September 2018 at Palali. The Self Banking
facility complex was installed by People's Bank at a request made by Commander
Security Force - Jaffna, in view of providing banking and financial transaction

Donations for Deserving Civilians in Wettalakerni
A number of donations for deserving school children and civilians including
pregnant women in the Jaffna Peninsula took place at St. Anthony’s
Church in Wettalakerni on 22nd September 2018. These donations were funded
by the 306 - C Diamond Lions Club in Colombo in response to a request
made by Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi.
200 School children from 4 Schools received stationary items while 65
out of them were distributed with school bags in addition.................
Troops Educated on Mental Wellbeing
A series of lectures pertaining to Mental Health was held at the 55 Division
on 18th September 2018 and at Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on
20th September 2018. These lectures were carried out for Officers and
Other Ranks of under command battalions at Security Force Jaffna. Senior
Psychological Counselor of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs Mr.
Furnished Houses Handed Over for the Under Privileged in Jaffna
Families of Wijaya kumar Sindujan and Sinnapullei Sivanaviyanwere among
the lucky families of the poverty-struck Thelippalei Divisional Secretariat
area in Jaffna, who were provided with fully furnished houses. The 2nd
Battalion of Gamunu Watch and the 7th Battalion of Gajaba Regimentassisted
with the manpower needed for the constructions in view of facilitating
a concept initiated by Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General
Darshana Hettiarrachchito provide houses for the homeless families suffering
from poverty within the Jaffna Peninsula. The much needed financial aid
was provided by Mr.Mohan Shankar and Mrs. Vadhani Shankar who made the

Another set of Pre-School children were facilitated to visit the Palali

A Pre-school constructed with the help of Army troops was declared open
at Siththankerni, Jaffna on 18th September 2018. The Pre-school named
'Park Joonho Internatiional Kindergarten' was constructed with the financial
aid from Mr. Park Joohno, Mrs. Park Suk Ja from South Korea and many other
donors on the request of Most Venerable Banagala Upathissa Thero. The

TDistribution of another 100 Coconut seedlings to low income families
in Kurumbasetty Village of Thelippilai Divisional Secretariat area took
place on 18th September 2018 as the part of a concept initiated by Commander

were distributed among 100 families in collaboration with Dharma Vijaya

Finale of 'Compering Star - 2018' Ends
The Grand Finale of 'Compering Star - 2018' a competition held within
the Security Force - Jaffna to select the most talented soldiers in Compering
was staged at the Headquarter premises of Security Force Jaffna on 16th
September 2018. The competition was aimed at hunting down the most talented
soldiers of both genders, according to a concept initiated by the Commander
Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi. 6 finalists
were selected among 300 soldiers who were trained and guided by renowned
professional comparers Mrs. Thilini Athukorala and Mrs. Chithra Kumari
Paththapperuma. The finalists were judged by a four member Judge panel
which comprised of Brigadier Ravindra Dias, Mrs. Nilmini Sigera, Mr. Chaminda
Gunarathne and Mr. Dhananjaya Nanayakkara who were also renowned professionals
in the field of compering and announcing...............
Bicycles Distributed for Deserving Students in Jaffna Peninsula
Another 22 Bicycles were distributed to deserving children within the
Jaffna Peninsula on 16th September 2018 with a donation received from
a well-wisher. Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana
Hettiarrachchi has initiated a project in Jaffna District to provide Bicycles
to facilitate the transportation needs of the students of low income families................
Water Treatment Plants declared Open for Army Personnel
Another 12 water treatment plants (Reverse Osmosis plants) were declared
open by Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi
on 10th and 11th September 2018 at several Army establishments in Jaffna
district. These RO plants were constructed by the Sri Lanka Navy, under
a concept of the Commander Security Force - Jaffna to provide safe and
purified drinking water to Army troops deployed within the Peninsula.
The treatment plants were constructed at Army camps of 51 Division, 551
Brigade, 521 Brigade, 4SLA, 10 SLA, 2(V) SLLI, 4 SLSR, 12 GW, 5 VIR, 4
SLEME Training School of 55 Division, and the Army Farm. 19 RO plants
have keen constructed at different locations in the Jaffna Peninsula by
September 2018 fulfilling a long standing,, ................

Releases More Lands to Facilitate the Resettlement Process in the Jaffna
The Army released another 4 acres and 70.4 perches of land and buildings
on 06th September 2018 in order to expedite the resettlement process,
particularly for the educational and communal development of the displaced
personnel within the Jaffna Peninsula. The Kaleimagal Maha Vidyala building
along with its access road at Myliddy, the Multi Purpose Corporative Society
(MPCS) building and Rural Development Society building and their lands
at Kurumbasiddy, and an area at Anaikoddai were among the released property
which were handed over to the Government Agent to be released towards
its rightful owners, ................
Blood Donation Campaigns by the Army
The 515 Brigade in Kankasanthurai, Jaffna carried out another Blood Donation
Campaign on 13th August 2018 in response to the instructions and guidance
of Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi.
A crowd exceeding 40 Military personnel participated in this campaign
which was held to commemorate the 27th Anniversary of the 515 Brigade,
Commanded by Colonel Senaka Kasthurimudali. Medical staff of the Teaching
Hospital in Jaffna extended their assistance in succeeding the programme................
Houses Handed Over to Underprivileged Families in Kayts - Jaffna
The Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna handed over two more houses constructed
by Army personnel for two underprivileged families at Karappan area in
Kayts on 22nd August 2018. Brother Charles Thomas and other donors of
the Daham Pahana Foundation provided financial assistance for the two
houses, accommodating a request made by the Security Force Commander -
Jaffna from Brother Anton Charles Thomas to assist low income families
in Jaffna district................

The Army released 4.2 Acres of land at the Kankesanthurei Central J 234
Grama Niladhari Division of the Divisional Secretariat - Thelippalei on
21st August 2018, towards its rightful owners. The event took place as
a step of continuation of the resettlement process of displaced people
within the Jaffna Peninsula which was carried out under the directions

Force Headquarters - Jaffna

Military dialogues 2018 ends successfully
programme designed to discuss matters pertaining to the role of the Military
and the Police for sustaining peace and the reconciliation process titled
"Military Dialogues 2018" was conducted by the Secretariat for
Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms (SCRM) in collaboration with the
Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Law and Order on 11th and 12th
July 2018 at Thalsevana Holiday resort in Jaffna. The fourth session of
the 1st phase of the programme was organized by the Security Force Headquarters

Army Facilitates Cataract Surgery for 20 Civilians in the Jaffna Peninsula
Security Force - Jaffna, under the guidance of Commander - Major General
Darshana Hettiarrachchi, conducted an Eye Clinic for civilians in the
Jaffna Peninsula on 10th June 2018 in that 159 civilians were diagnosed
as Cataract patients. Cataract surgeries for 20 civilians out of total

a series of events from 17th to 25th June 2018. The series of programmes
commenced on 17th June 2018 along with paying a floral tribute to the
fallen war heroes at the War Heroes' Monumentfollowed byreligious activities
of Chanting Pirith and a Bodhi Poojaon 18 June 2018. A Shramadhana Campaign
was organized at the Cancer Hospital - Thelippalai on 19 June 2018 and

A programme to donate Coconut Seedlings to Vallipuram Kovil and 36 families

The Finals of the Elle Championship of the Security Force - Jaffna was
held at the 5 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps playground on 15 April 2018.
The tournament was organized under the direction of the Commander, Security
Force - Jaffna, Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi to improve sportsmanship
of soldiers and to develop cohesion among them. A total of 45 teams competed
in the tournament which was organized by the 512 Brigade. The 5 Vijayabahu
Infantry Regiment and the 23 Gemunu Watch qualified for the finals. The

Process in Collaboration with Daham Pahana
The Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi
takes another major step towards the reconciliation process in Jaffna
under the patronage of 'Daham Pahana' awarding 300 scholarships with Ran
Kekulu Savings Accounts to students from low-income families to support
their education for five years. The event was held at Ilankai Venthan
Art College on 10 May 2018. In addition, 100 Bicycles, 7500 Coconut Seedlings,
20 Sewing Kits worth Rs. 20000.00 each and financial assistance providing
Rs. 20000.00 each for 20 needy families to construct sanitary facilities

Review Meeting on Extensive Coconut Plantation in Security Forces - Jaffna
The Chairman and top officials of the Coconut Development Board arrived
at the Headquarters, Security Forces - Jaffna on 10th April 2018 to discuss
the progress of extensive coconut Plantation project initiated by the
HQ, SF (J). The officials of the Coconut Development Board indicated their
utmost satisfaction on the progress of the project and agreed to provide
coconut saplings to achieve the target of 100,000 plants by the end of

Over of Lands to Rightful Owners
Initiating another phase of resettlement programme in Jaffna Peninsula,
683 acres of land was handed over to 964 families (3309 members) by the
Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake at a ceremony
held at Mailadi on 13 April 2018. Under the guidance of the Commander,
Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, lands
belong to 4 GS Divisions in DS Division - Theleppalai were handed over
to civilians who were in IDP camps and their relations' houses. Speaking

Troops of the 55 Div organized the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration
at the 55 Div Play Ground on 07 April 2018 with the guidance of Brigadier
Jayantha Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding - 55 Division. All Brigade
Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and all Other
Ranks from Division Headquarter, under command Brigades and Battalions
participated in the event. General Officer Commanding - 55 Division graced
the event as the Chief Guest. Lighting of the traditional oil lamp signified
the commencement of the day's event. This festival included a variety
of traditional/modern games, amusing events and special events for Officers
as well. In the evening, the gathering of the troops was entertained by
the music band at the colorful Musical Show held at the same venue.
Soldiers Celebrate Sinhala & Hindu New Year 2018
Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival which symbolizes cultural unity between
the two communities organized by the Security Force Headquarters –
Jaffna was held on 9th of April at Polsewana playground under the guidance
of Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander Security Force –
Jaffna. Troops participated a range of traditional games which can be
seen in the North and the South especially during this festival season,
Grand Finale of the Bodybuilding Competition 'Mr. Jaffna - 2018'
The Grand Finale of the bodybuilding competition 'Mr. Jaffna - 2018' was
held at the Security Force Headquarters Auditorium on 05 April 2018. The

graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The 'Mr. Jaffna - 2018' is a concept

A programme to distribute free spectacles for needy people in Jaffna area
was held on 30 March 2018 at the 10 (v) Vijayabahu Infantry Battalion
Headquarters. The event had been organized under the directions of Major
General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander Security Force - Jaffna as
a community project to assist people with optical defects in the area.
The event was coordinated by the General Officer Commanding, 55 Division,
Brigadier Jayantha Gunarathna with the patronage of Sri Lanka Eye Donation
Society.Over 600 people had the opportunity to get their vision checked
by the specialists who attended the programme and 415 were given free

Lanka Army Provided Assistance to Construct Another 30 Houses to Resettle
Internally Displaced Persons
The government has made a special arrangement to provide a grant of Rs
400000.00 to buy a land and Rs 800000.00 to construct a house for each
extended family that has been living in welfare centers during the last
so many years. The Army troops serving in Jaffna peninsula provided assistance
to the families those received grants from the government to construct
their houses in Telippalei area. The assistance by Army troops gave a
great relief to the house owners to save their money and spend on purchasing

PACOM Augmentation Team of the Embassy of the United States visited the
Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna on 03 April 2018. The Commander,

Renovated Muththumare Amman Hindu Temple in Thelippalai
The Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) initiated a project recently
to renovate 100 Hindu Temples in Jaffna District which were damaged during
the period of conflict. Accordingly the Army troops renovated "Muththumari
Amman Hindu Temple" at Thelippalai and the first Pooja after the
renovation was held on 30 March 2018. The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant
General Mahesh Senanayake attended this special pooja to mark the commitment
of the Sri Lanka Army towards the reconciliation process initiated by

A programme to donate sewing machines to selected low income families
in Jaffna area held at the Security Forces Headquarters Auditorium on
28 March 2018. On the request of the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna,
Major General Dharshana Hettirrachchi, the project was initiated with
the financial support of Mr. Mohan Shankar and Mrs. Vadani Shankar. The
event was coordinated and organized by the 7 Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps
Stage of Nallinakkapuram Model Village Project Handed Over to Civilians
Newly constructed 25 houses in the Keeramalai housing project were handed
over to 25 families in Jaffna area by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant
General Mahesh Senanayake at a ceremony held at Keeramalai on 30 March
2018. These houses were constructed as the second stage of Nallinakkapuram

Force - Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi to unveil the singing
and dancing talents of Army/ Navy/ Air Force officers and soldiers serving

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Emerged Champions of the Volleyball Tournament

After a tight competition, the 4th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment emerged
champions beating 4th Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police at the finals
of the Volleyball tournament of the Security Force - Jaffna. The Volleyball
tournament, which had the participation of 32 teams under command to SF
HQ (J) was organised by the 511 Brigade following the guidelines of the
Security Force Commander Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi to improve
the sportsmanship of officers/ soldiers and to develop cohesion among
them. 4th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment team won the tournament and 4th
Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police got the second place and 2nd Military
Intelligent Corps became the third place in the tournament. The best all

The Dharma Vijaya Foundation form Colombo donated Band Instruments, Electric
Fans and a Public Address System to Madihe Pangnaseeha Vidyalaya at Puttur

A Switzerland Delegation comprising H.E. Heinz Walker - Nederkoom, the
Ambassador of Switzerland for Sri Lanka and Mr. Damiano Sguaitamati, the

Agility and Combat Efficiency System (PACES) Competition in Jaffna
Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System, generally referred as PACES
is an initiative to improve the physical standards of military personnel
which help them in enhancing their strength, ability and coordination
between the mind and the body. As conceptualized by the Commander, Security

Sri Lanka National Guard won the Kabaddi Championship in Security Forces
Headquarters - Jaffna
Finals of the Kabaddi Championship of Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna
held at the Security Forces Headquarters Playground in Palaly on 28 February
2018. The championship was a concept of the Commander, Security Force
- Jaffna to advance the sportsmanship of Officers /Soldiers, instill esprit-de-corps
and to develop their cohesion. 20th Sri Lanka National Guard emerged champions
during the finals after beating 4th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment in a
hard contest. Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, the Commander, Security
Force - Jaffna presented trophies to the winning teams and gave away medals
/certificates to winners during the awarding ceremony. Many Senior Officers

Items Donated for the Students in Jaffna
Some school item packs worth of Rs.5,000.00 each were distributed among
25 children of low-income families living in welfare centres at Yogapuram
and Selvapuram in Jaffna District. Two benefactors, Mr Madawa Manchanayake
and Mr Thusitha Fernando participated alongside with the 52 Division staff
on 24 February 2018 to provide school items. This event was conceptualised
by the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Dharsana Hettiarrachchi

programme 'Kandula' held in Jaffna for the second consecutive time
The Security Force Headquarters, Jaffna organized the second phase of
'Kandula' programme conducted by Brother Charles Thomas at the premises
on 17 February 2018. The programme focused on promoting human values and
bringing communities together through his vision towards a spiritually
empowered nation where all people believe in love. Over 5000 participants
consisting of troops from Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, School Children
and University Students in Jaffna peninsula attended the programme. Major

Forces Headquarters - Jaffna conducted a Programme on Human Rights and
On the invitation of Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, the Commander,
Security Forces - Jaffna, Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission (SLHRC) conducted
a two-days programme on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law for the Officers
and Other Ranks in Jaffna peninsula. The lectures of the programme were
conducted by SLHRC Officials, Mr. Rohita Priyadarshana and Dhanushka Chamil
from 15 to 16 February 2018 at the Auditorium of the Security Force Headquarters
- Jaffna and attended around 500 participants. This two-days programme

Lanka Army Offers Job Opportunities to the Unemployed in Jaffna
As a part of the reconciliation process and to uplift the living standards
of Civil Community in Jaffna, the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna
decreed to recruit 50 unemployed youth, both male and female, to employ
in the Army Farm at Palaly. Addressing the newly enrolled personnel including
some rehabilitated ex-LTTE members at the auditorium of the Security Force

Forces - Jaffna Netball Championship Clinched by the 'C' Company of 7
The finals of the Netball Championship of Security Forces - Jaffna was
held at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna playground on 13 February
2018. The tournament was a concept of the Commander, Security Forces -
Jaffna to improve sportsmanship of Officers / Soldiers and to develop
cohesion among them. 515 Brigade under the guidance and instructions of
the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna organized the tournament and 5
teams participated the tournament. The 'C' Company of 7 SLAWC clinched
the championship and 'A' Company of 7 SLAWC was placed the runners-up.
Third place was secured by the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna team.

Lecture on Fitness and Nutrition at Security Force Headquarters -Jaffna
Ms. Tiffany Batsakis MSC, a registered dietitian and a personal trainer
from the United States America conducted a lecture on Fitness and Nutrition
for the Officers serving in Jaffna on 12 February 2018 at the Auditorium
of the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna. Ms. Tiffany visited Security
Force Headquarters - Jaffna on the invitation of Major General Dharshana
Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna to educate Officers
on the importance of Fitness and Nutrition. She emphasized the values
and benefits of maintaining body fitness and shared her knowledge on nutritional
counseling during the lecture. More than 230 Officers from different formations
in Jaffna area attended the lecture. Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi,
Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna presented a memento to Ms. Tiffany
at the conclusion of the lecture in appreciation of her valued contribution.
Donation by the Troops of 51 Division
The 51 Division in SF (J) organized a blood donation programme at Kopay
- Jaffna and more than 150 Army personnel donated blood on 6th February
2018 to mark the 70th Independence Day celebrations. General Officer Commanding
51 Division Major General Roshan Senavirathna and several senior Army
officers participated the event.
Conservation Programme in Jaffna
The 55 Division organized a beach cleaning programme in order to celebrate
70th Independence Day with the guidance of General Officer Commanding
55 Division Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne in line with the concept of the
Commander Security Force - Jaffna Major General Dharsana Hettiarrachchi's
coast conservation programme. Programme was conducted along Kaddaikadu
to Chundikulam costal line and approx 3 km stretch cleaned on o4 February
2018 and more than 160 Army personnel participated to the event.
of Kankesanthurai - Point Pedro Road for Public Transport
Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna re-opened the road patch that runs
between Kankesanthurai and Point Pedro along the AB 21 road for public
transportation on 6 February 2018 after 28 years.
Due to non availability of this road access, the civilians living in both
sides (Kankesanthurai and Point Pedro) were compelled to make a long detour
around 35 km by private vehicles and approx 50 km in public transportation
facility. This reopening of the AB 21 road will ease off all the difficulties
which were experienced by the civilians in Kankesanthurai and Point Pedro

Independence Day Celebrations Jaffna
A volleyball tournament was organized to mark the 70th Independence Day
celebrations and the tournament commenced on 2nd February at Kachchai
Vakaiadi playground. The final match was played between Volley Kings team
Vs Sima Puththur Junction teams on 4th February 2018. This tournament
was organized by the battalions under command to 522 Brigade on the direction
of 522 Brigade Commander Colonel Kamal Pinnawala. The Jaffna branches
of National Saving Bank, Bank of Ceylon and Hatton National Bank assisted

Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna is continuing to support students
in Jaffna District for their education and another event in a series held
today, 21 January 2018 at Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna. The event
was organized under the guidance of Security Forces Commander - Jaffna,
Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi and in collaboration with the Hounslow
Sri Lankan Janahanda Foundation in the UK. 50 students from low income
families in Jaffna area were given with scholarships during the event.
These students will be given Rs. 5000 per month for a period of 5 years

At the programme the veteran instructor emphasized that Sports Nutrition
is a segment of medicine that deals with physical fitness and the treatment
and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. Sports nutrition
is the study and practice of nutrition and diet with regard to fuelling
our athletic performances. Also the veteran stressed that nutrition is
an important part of many sports training programmes, being popular in
